Bureau Veritas has secured accreditation to provide CBAM verification services, increasing the number of international assurance providers available to manufacturers supplying carbon-intensive goods to the European market.
The accreditation was announced on 29 September and enables recognised verification services supporting emissions reporting and regulatory compliance under the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism.
Bureau Veritas said its new offering draws on its experience with EU Emissions Trading System verification and greenhouse-gas assurance under ISO 14064 and ISO 14067.
Verification capacity develops alongside CBAM compliance
The accreditation adds to the emerging commercial market for independent CBAM assurance as exporters prepare for the definitive regime. Producers must organise their monitoring records and emissions calculations into evidence capable of supporting an independent verification conclusion.
The availability of accredited providers gives exporters another option when arranging verification, but accreditation alone does not determine whether a particular service is suitable for an installation.
Companies comparing verification providers need to establish the legal entity conducting the engagement, its accreditation scope and the proposed verification timetable before selecting a provider.
Installation scope and data readiness remain relevant
The Bureau Veritas announcement does not provide a universal fee schedule or establish that every installation can obtain an immediate verification appointment.
Exporters therefore need to schedule verification according to the complexity of their own production operations and the readiness of their emissions data. For suppliers operating several plants or using multiple precursor sources, maintaining consistent records can reduce additional clarification work during the verification process.
Bureau Veritas’s accreditation expands the available CBAM verification capacity, while exporters still need to ensure that their production records, monitoring information and emissions calculations are prepared for independent review.
